US President Donald Trump has called on Ukraine to hold a new presidential election, saying Volodymyr Zelenskyy should negotiate a deal with Russia to bring the conflict to a close.
Trump also pointed the finger at Zelenskyy for climbing fuel costs in the United States, warning Kyiv to cease hitting Russian oil refineries he argues could deliver American fuel.
The comments came on 10 October 2026, the same day Britain's Prime Minister spoke separately by phone with Zelenskyy, according to the UK government.
